A Fight in a Brothel
It was in September of 1947 that Master Yu was invited to a fellow townsmen Li ShuYuan’s house for a drink. Also a master of XinYiLiuHe Quan, Li ShuYuan had become a close friend of Master Yu. On that particular day, Master Yu felt something strange about the invitation, but he went nevertheless. Only a few moments after he arrived, a young man came in. Master Yu had never met this young man before, but he knew from his introduction that he was a student of Li, and a carpenter by trade. The young carpenter suddenly kneeled before master Yu and started to kowtow. Master Yu was surprised and asked him why, and the young carpenter started explaining in tears.
The young carpenter was an honest and law-biding man; he was good at his trade and made a good living. He had saved some money and was recently married to a beautiful young girl. 
His wife was born into a poor family, but she was hardworking and loved the young carpenter deeply. The couple was living a beautiful life until something horrible happened to them: One day, the young wife went out to buy groceries, and was seen by a man named Yu ShaoFei. Yu ShaoFei ws the bodyguard of the police chief of the city; he had power and money to back him up. Compared to the knave Yang ShenFa, this one was neither better nor worse: aside from hanging out in gambling houses and brothels all day, he’d done almost every evil deed one can think of.
Evidently Yu ShaoFei was just passing by that day when he saw the carpenter’s wife buying groceries in the city’s south market. He was attracted by her beauty right away and followed her home. When the carpenter’s wife walked into her house Yu ShaoFei pushed the door open behind her and rushed right in. Shocked with disbelief, the carpenter tried to stop Yu, but was met with the muzzle of Yu’s pistol: “Get the hell out of here now, unless you want to have a taste of this gun! If you got some problem, you can go to the court and sue me anytime!”
The young carpenter could do nothing but walk away in tears, leaving his own wife in the hands of that devil. But this was not the end of a nightmare; rather, it was merely the beginning. Yu ShaoFei dropped in anytime he felt like from that day forward. The carpenter knew who Yu was and that even if he tried to sue him, there would be no justice given. On the contrary, his family and himself would be the only ones who would suffer, even more. But the carpenter couldn’t bear himself for doing nothing, so he went to his master Li ShuYuan and begged for help. When Li heard his story, Master Yu’s past immediately appeared before his eyes: Master Yu’s reason for leaving HeNan and his hatred toward the wicked was no secret among his friends. Li knew very well that Master Yu was not only passionate but also compassionate in nature. Furthermore, Master Yu did not have any family at that time, so Li decided to invite him for a drink and ask for help.
Master Yu was only meeting the young carpenter for the first time. If he had never heard the young man’s story, nothing would have happened. But being the person he was, Master Yu could not let this pass without doing something.
“Take me to this guy right now!” said Master Yu. The young carpenter did not know where Yu ShaoFei lived so they went to the gambling houses and brothels to look for him. At almost midnight, they saw a big man come out of a brothel, so drunk he couldn’t even walk straight. The young carpenter pointed at him and said: “That’s him, that’s Yu ShaoFei. Be careful, he’s got a gun.”
Master Yu walked up to him quickly: “Yu ShaoFei, that’s you, isn’t it?” The voice was so loud that Yu ShaoFei woke up in sudden clarity. He looked at master Yu, someone he had never seen before in his life, but the burning anger in this man’s eyes made him so afraid that he could not look him in the eyes. However, being a bodyguard himself, Yu ShaoFei did not have to think too much before he reached for his gun. At that very moment, Master Yu’s fist had already reached his jaw, and before he knew it, Master Yu’s “Iron Bar” arm was on his chest and he was forced back several steps. 
Yu ShaoFei clearly knew that this man’s martial art skill was far better than his own, so he ran back to the brothel and closed the door behind him. Master Yu was one step behind and started beating on the door, suddenly, three shots were fired from behind the door, one of which hit Master Yu’s right arm. Master Yu felt numbness in his right hand, and saw blood dripping. He knew he was shot. At this time, everyone inside the brothel was running for cover and no one dared to look out to see what had happened. It wasn’t long before the police got there and took Master Yu into custody and sent him over to the prison hospital.
The incident became a big story the very next day. Newspapers and magazines reported the whole event in great detail. Shanghai was furious. Many honest people took it upon themselves to try and set Master Yu free.
Meanwhile, Yu ShaoFei also got the news that Master Yu was only shot in the arm. He then went to the hospital and tried to bribe the doctor to get him cut off master Yu’s arm, thereby making Master Yu disabled. The doctor refused, for he knew from friends and the newspaper what Master Yu was standing up for. The doctor did his best to treat master Yu and cured him completely. Master Yu was later able to practice martial arts as if nothing had happened. The doctor did not tell Master Yu any of this until the day Master Yu left the hospital. Master Yu was deeply moved by the doctor’s moral integrity, both as a physician and as a person. To Master Yu’s regret, he never knew that doctor’s name. For a period of time, Master Yu was taken into prison several times for investigation and was finally set free under the pressure of public opinion.
