Leaving HeNan

At that time, there was a knave in town whose name was Yang ShenFa. Yang was one of the town’s sheriff, and an expert in martial arts. Yang constantly abused his political and physical power: bullying people around, sexually harass women; the list of his ruthlessness just kept on going. Everyone in town hated him, but no one dared to defy him in any way.

Yang always had two things with him: his pistol and members of his suite. He never paid a cent when eating at restaurants. By coincident, Master Yu was in the same restaurant when Yang and his two buddies finished a big meal and was about to walk out as usual without paying. The waiter tried to stop him but when he saw Yang’s hand reaching for the pistol, the waiter stood there in shock and did not dare to move. Master Yu saw this and asked the waiter what had happened. He then realized that this was the much-hated overlord Yan ShenFa. Master Yu run out to the street and stopped Yang: “Wait, you there! You haven’t pay for your meal yet, this restaurant has to do its business and can’t afford to let you eat for free all the time!”

Used to his way of lawlessness, Yang had never had anyone speak to him in such a tone. Shocked and angry, Yang pulled out his pistol and pointed at Master Yu: “shut up! You…” Before he could even finish the sentence, master Yu stepped towards him with lightning speed, knock off the pistol with his left hand and punched Yang on his chest with his right hand. Yang fell back, hit his head on a rock by the side of the road and started bleeding badly. Yang’s two followers saw what happened and run back to the sheriff’s office to report. Master Yu did not want to get anyone else involved so he turned himself in right away. But the news had already spread all over town. Almost everybody in town, from merchant to farmer, all felt grateful towards master Yu. The chief of police had heard Master Yu’s name before and was told that many of the town’s business owner would put up bail to set master Yu free. On top of that, the doctor said Yang’s condition was not life threatening, so the chief released him temporally. Soon after that, news from the hospital said Yang was probably not going to survive. Master Yu’s father and friends persuaded him that he should leave town immediately and go to Shanghai his sister’s place before the police come and catch him. Besides getting away from the police, he would also have a chance to elevate his martial art skills by learning with the grand master of XinYiLiuHe Quan: Master Lu SongGao, who was also a native of ZhouJiaKo. With the help of many people, Master Yu left for Shanghai that very night.

After Master Yu reached Shanghai, he hid out in his sister’s place for a while. At which time Master Lu SongGao was already teaching at the famous YingHua Martial art school. Master Yu went to learn from Master Lu from time to time and met with Mr. Xie XingBang and other students of master Lu. It was not before long that the World War II started and the Japanese occupied Shanghai.

Master Yu and his sister sold Chinese pizza to make a living. Just like them, lots of farmers from HeNan also came to Shanghai and opened small businesses, selling Chinese pizza or other small crafts, trying very hard to make the next meal.

Lots of people who came from the same province eventually lost all hope and started doing drugs, and then lost their families. Seeing what drugs had done to his own people, master Yu promised himself that he would awake his fellow townsmen and punish the drug dealers. Soon, he was able to catch the drug dealer who sold heroin around ZheJiang Road and East Ave. He made the drug dealer kneel before his drug addicted townsmen and dumped a big bag of heroin into the dumpster. Master Yu later found out that the drug dealer was backed by the Japanese military police. In order to escape from prosecution, Master Yu left his sister’s home and sold tickets in some theater to make a living.
